In another one of our roundtable interviews from this year’s Comic-Con, we spoke with Paul Blackthorne, who plays Detective Officer Captain Quentin Lance in Arrow Season 3, and the first question we asked was, of course, if he fears having yet another daughter taking up a crimefighting alter ego.
“Lance has no fears! Are you crazy?” he joked. “Obviously, with Sara, he was aware of her crime fighting tendencies and sartorial taste, which obviously was not easy for a man – a father to deal with, but at the end of the day, she was doing it for the good of the city, wasn’t she? So in his mind, that’s how he reconciled the whole idea of what’s she got up to at night. And he coped with that. She’s always been a rebel; he can deal with it.”
“The idea of Laurel getting handed the black leather jacket, obviously, was a little bit of a red flag for Lance,” Blackthorne continued. I think the last thing he wants is his more bookish, intellectual daughter – ‘you’re the book daughter, not the run around at night saving people daughter!’ – but hey. She has a strong will as well, so he’ll have to cope with whatever happens.”
In the video interview, Paul Blackthorne also talked about the time jump and Quentin Lance’s recovery and new position between Seasons 2 and 3, whether or not it matters to Quentin who the Arrow actually is, and more. Enjoy:
