Team GATV Roundtable: Looking Back At The First Half Of Arrow Season 4
Opinion January 7, 2016 Craig Byrne
Who’s in the grave?
CRAIG: I wrote a column about this a few months back, and I feel like I left a big name off of there, not on purpose, and that’s Donna Smoak. I’d hate to lose her, because I know a lot of fans love her and Charlotte Ross has been so good to the Arrow fandom, but I could see Oliver getting really torn up over losing her, because she was so special to Felicity, and by not saving her mother, Oliver might feel he’s failed Felicity, which would make the drama even greater. Also, a death only has meaning if it’s a character people care about — an Ianto to the group. Donna is so well loved fans would be shocked and upset, I’d think. And, hey, now she’s with Quentin, so her death would affect him, too. So, I’m going with her. Could be wrong and you can all laugh at me later, but that’s my bet for now and I’m sticking with it.
STEPHANIE: Quentin is a possibility if he turns on Damien and gets killed trying to protect Team Arrow, though I don’t know that Barry would show up for Quentin. Otherwise, I’d expect the person in the grave to be someone who’s not in the main cast. Donna’s a good guess, who I’d hate to lose. Or Walter Steele. He should be due for a return appearance about now, right?
MATT: I don’t know. Would it be bad of me to say that I also don’t care? I thought the set-up was an interesting start to the season, but there really hasn’t been much to keep my interest in it over this first run of episodes.
DEREK: There isn’t anyone in the main cast that wouldn’t be a major loss at this point. I’m leaning on Samantha (though I’d rather the show not kill another woman for the sake of Oliver angst.) And, it would be very gutsy and uber dark to do it, but my second choice is Oliver’s son, William. That thread has been leading to something for a long time, and since he’s (supposedly) not Connor Hawke, he’s fair game. Barry knowing about William after the crossover, and thus present in the grave scene, only leads more credence to that theory.
I’m wondering if the real twist might be the “him” Oliver is referring to — what if it isn’t Dahrk? What if Quentin makes a fatal mistake during his spying? Or maybe it’s Andy, who almost gets redeemed but then slips back to the darkside? Or even Diggle, who ends up making a decision to save his brother that causes someone else to be killed? Those are all long shots, but I wouldn’t mind a more complex curveball than “Dahrk kills a good guy, Oliver goes after him.”
