Team GATV Roundtable: Looking Back At The First Half Of Arrow Season 4
Opinion January 7, 2016 Craig Byrne
Which character have you liked the least?
DEREK: There aren’t any main characters I outright haven’t liked this season. Some characters have had their low points, though — Laurel’s main plotline (Sara’s resurrection) very specifically required her to be reckless and shortsighted, which made it hard to root for her even when understanding her motivation. She kind of reverted to the “It’s all about meee” Laurel from the earlier days for a second, but she’s since bounced back and functioned well as a supporting character (I especially liked she and Diggle’s bonding over resurrected siblings, for example.) And like I’d mentioned, the big Oliver/Felicity blowout in the crossover was weirdly misguided and regressive characterization, so thank goodness that time got rewritten.
On a smaller scale, I wish the higher-ranking H.I.V.E. villains had more color and character to them — Dahrk pumps all of this energy in the room while his cohorts usually just stand around like generic corporate suits. It makes sense for the lackeys to be brainwashed, but I don’t really get why the bad guys working with Dahrk are so emotionless too.
MATT: No one really stands out as bad or unlikeable to me.
STEPHANIE: The flashback characters whose names I can’t even remember. They’re just not popping the way that Yao Fei, Fyers, and Slade did on the island.
CRAIG: I already mentioned my issues with Andy Diggle – and again, it’s not the fault of the actor or his performance. I just don’t think Andy is a character that needed to come back.
