Season 5 Cover Countdown: Green Arrow #81

Every year on GreenArrowTV’s Twitter feed and Facebook page, we’d count down to the new season’s premiere with a classic Green Arrow-related comic book cover. After all, it was the comic books that inspired the TV series to begin with.

Since there had sometimes been confusion about the covers without any context, this year we’re going to describe the comic book covers that we are showing. The issue numbers on the comics will correspond to the number of days left before Season 5 begins. For example, there are 81 days left until Arrow Season 5, considering The CW has announced an October 5 premiere date.

Green Arrow #81

When issue #81 of the Green Arrow comic book came out in 1993, it was a distinctly different comic than what the series had been for 80 issues prior. In today’s market, it surely would have been a new #1 issue. This issue did, however, feature an all-new, all-different, and pointy new Green Arrow cover logo and the return of a mask on Oliver Queen’s face.

Following the long run written by Mike Grell, Kevin Dooley wrote this issue which was drawn by comic book legend Jim Aparo.
