Arrow Season 3 Spoilers: Roles Being Cast – Possibly Including Blue Beetle
NewsSpoilers June 15, 2014 Craig Byrne
While we have no title yet for the Season 3 premiere of Arrow, which will likely air in October, TV Line came through with some details on new roles that will be cast for Arrow Season 3.
Casting breakdowns like these rarely tell the whole story — for example, last summer they were casting a role called “Lisa” that we think was either Sara or Nyssa (and we’re being too lazy this Sunday morning to look up to see for sure) — and when Slade Wilson was cast, even Manu Bennett was unaware of the character that he would be playing. This is to throw off people as to which characters are being cast, so big surprises can be announced at Comic-Con next month.
So which characters are they looking for?
“Daniel” is obviously a code-name for someone else. The character is described as “a 20something gent” and a major recurring character for Season 3. He’s handsome — of course, it’s The CW, right? — and he’s also an enigmatic and highly intelligent entrepreneur developing groundbreaking technology. He exudes charm and confidence in public, but is said to harbor a tragic past that drives him to become a tech-powered superhero. From this description, it sounds like they are describing Ted Kord, whose company Kord Industries has already been mentioned on the series, and he is indeed a tech-based superhero.
More for this character: He’s said to be a love interest for Felicity and a rival of Oliver’s – both personally and professionally. Since Barry is in Central City, seems there is new competition for the lady that Quentin Lance calls “Misch Schmoak.”
Ted Kord is recently added to the “New 52” DC Comics universe with the Forever Evil story, which means he is a growing player in the DCU. Finally, we might add that if this is Ted, the “Daniel” alias for casting makes sense: Ted’s predecessor as the Blue Beetle was Dan Garrett.
Then there’s “Seth.” We don’t know what character inspired him, but he gains power over enemies by exposing them to drugs that drain their willpower. He also is a physical match for The Arrow. Any ideas on who that could be? Leave them in the comments.
“Toshi” is recurring in the Hong Kong flashbacks, and he will be Oliver’s teacher and handler who eventually becomes a friend. He’s a well-trained operative, skilled in weaponry, intelligence gathering and combat, and when he’s not doing that, he is a devoted father and husband. So, basically he’s a sane version of Slade Wilson, right?
“Akiko” is Toshi’s wife and is highly skilled in the martial arts.
