5.02: “The Recruits”

Oliver finally acquiesces to Felicity’s suggestions that he form a new team. He recruits three new members: Rene Ramirez, a hockey mask wearing, gun toting vigilante; Evelyn Sharp, who had pretended to be Black Canary following Laurel’s death in Season 4; and Curtis, who decides he wants to fight after being jumped by some guys. He tries to train them by having them get past him to ring a bell, which they continuously fail to do as he swats them away and does little to encourage them. It’s a method he took from his time trying to join the Bratva, which taught him to not trust anyone. Felicity works to convince Oliver that he needs to trust the new team and allow them to see that he trusts them. He’s worried about getting close because he doesn’t want to lose someone again like he lost Laurel. It takes another vigilante in mystical rags to convince Oliver to solidify the new team. Meanwhile, Diggle discovers that his military unit is trying to steal a nuclear warhead they were sent to recover to sell it on the black market. He’s held captive and the entire op will be pinned on him.

5.06: “So It Begins”

Now aware of Prometheus, Oliver and Diggle follow up on a lead only to be met with a message in fire: “So it begins…” Prometheus killed Tobias Church and has been killing seemingly random people, who turn out to have names that are anagrams of people on Robert Queen’s list that Oliver was using back in Season 1. The recruits learn that Oliver was also the murderous Hood who was hunting people back then and aren’t sure if they can trust him. As the city is gripped by fear of a serial killer, Thea tries to find both Oliver and Quentin. She discovers that Quentin is not only drinking again but never stopped. Felicity reveals to her boyfriend that she works with the Green Arrow. She also discovers that the calling card throwing stars that Prometheus is using are made from the various arrowheads the police had collected from Oliver’s exploits over the years. At home, Quentin is led to believe in his drunken, blackout state that he might be Prometheus.

5.07: “Vigilante”

Amidst the fear of the “throwing star” killer, Prometheus, and his campaign against Oliver, a new vigilante arrives on the scene. He shares Oliver’s view of justice but his methods are decidedly more fatal. Oliver and his new team attempt to stop the Vigilante, which puts them in his sights. As he tries to take down a gang committing bank heists, he tries to sway Green Arrow over to his methods, but Oliver has returned to a no-murder policy after being open to the brutality following his confrontation with Damien Darhk. Thea helps Quentin get into rehab to finally get a handle on his drinking. Oliver becomes friendly with reporter Susan Williams, who seems genuine in getting to know Oliver. Though one can’t ignore she was given proof that Oliver was in Russia during his five-year gone time a few weeks ago. And Evelyn is revealed to be working as a mole for Prometheus.
