Video Interview: Colton Haynes & Emily Bett Rickards Talk Roy & Felicity!

In a video interview from Comic-Con, Colton Haynes (Roy Harper) and Emily Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak) speak!

– Colton and Emily talk about their one Season 1 scene together, featuring a special cameo by John Barrowman’s rear end…

– “It’s really devastating for Roy. Right now, he’s almost trying to be a soldier for his community,” Colton says of the Glades destruction. “So Roy’s trying to be a hero for them, and he’s going through a lot. He’s trying to maintain his relationship with Thea. That’s the one thing in his life that has been going well, for now, and he’s getting into a lot of trouble because he’s getting a little too big for his britches. He’s thinking he’s more powerful than he really is, and he’s about to get knocked down a few pegs by a few of the other characters that he hasn’t worked with before, yet, so…”

– “There’s a small time jump,” Colton confirms. “We find out Oliver Queen has not been around for a while, so that’s gotten Roy into a lot of trouble, because he hasn’t had someone to kind of…. he’s sort of taken the role of the vigilante on to himself. That would be a great goal for Roy, to eventually possibly team up [with Oliver],” he says. “I think Roy’s going to have a lot of mentors, with characters he has not worked with before.”

– In the first week of filming, everyone ended up with bruises. A lot of action on the way from the very start?

– We may see Felicity’s back story in Season 2. “When we find Felicity in the first season, we see her at a desk, and throughout the first season, she’s still at a desk, and she’s going through these new environments we get to see her in,” Emily says, before listing the small things we have learned about Felicity Smoak so far. “We don’t know anything about her family, and I get to say to Marc and Andrew what I thought her backstory is, but it’s never solidified until it’s on film,” she says.

– “She had five months to run through IKEA,” Emily says about Felicity’s makeover of the Arrow lair. “Actually, I have no idea what furniture shop she would have gone to, but it is souped-up. It is high-tech. It is everything, to a tee, of what you would think… it’s like Dexter’s dream [from Dexter’s Laboratory].”

– What kind of interaction is coming with Summer Glau’s Isabel Rochev? “Summer is so fantastic,” she says. “Isabel comes in to Queen Consolidated. Felicity still works at Queen Consolidated, and we get to see her sort of exercise or stage a meeting between Isabel and Oliver, in hopes to protect Queen Consolidated,” Emily reveals.
