Would you watch a Ray Palmer spin-off?
STEPHANIE: Yes. I’ve enjoyed the character so far, and I have a lot of faith in Brandon Routh being able to carry his own show.
CRAIG: I would, but I think I’d prefer to see Ray as part of a team. Maybe the sciency side of the DC Universe, and characters like Ronnie Raymond could even join in? As we’ve made pretty clear, Brandon Routh has a lot of charisma and it’d be great to see more of him on the show.
MATT: I would, but it would really depend on what the thrust of the series is. Just having another hero series feels a bit redundant. Arrow deals with a ground-level approach. The Flash deals with the outlandish world of superpowers. What would be the hook of an Atom series?
I’m more partial to the anthology series concept that could feature some various Atom stories at points.
DEREK: Sure, I’d watch if it happened, but I’m not clamoring for it, honestly. Ray’s geeky persona would yield a tone too close to what The Flash already is, not to mention it’d include all the sci-fish superhero stuff The Flash is already doing. I’d hate to get fatigue from the audience or the makers of the DCwU so early by giving every promising hero a show.
Even if CBS’s Supergirl isn’t officially canon with the DCwU, I think it’s likely that its tone and the mechanics of the alien origin will bring something different. So with that in mind, the next spin-off needs to also be different to have a good reason to exist. Honestly, I’d be down with this Vixen animated series leading to a live-action one. It’d be a sensible way to bring in magical and supernatural-based powers to the world, and that character has untapped potential for being a bigger-name female lead. Someone on Twitter mentioned how Arrow, Flash, and Vixen could be the DC Trinity of the CW, and I absolutely love that idea.
In any case, I am 100% behind Matt’s anthology idea.
