“Shippers”… you might all be wrong!
At this weekend’s Comic-Con International in San Diego, Stephen Amell spoke more than once about Oliver Queen’s most important relationship on the series… and it’s not with a particular person.
“To me, this season feels very grounded and very patient,” Amell said when previewing the new season of Arrow. “[Oliver’s] father asked him to make Star City a better place than the place that he left it. And that really is where we get to with Oliver. Oliver’s most important relationship in the show is not with Felicity, it’s not with Thea, it’s not with Diggle; it’s with Star City. And that’s what we focus on this year. Arrow has always been… a street level-crime-fighting-make-Star-City better show. And it feels like we’re getting back to that this year, which is cool.”
Speaking to ComicBook, Amell’s words were very similar. “Oliver’s most important relationship in the entire show is his relationship with Star City, and his objective to make it better than what it was and fulfill what his father asked him to do. So Oliver and Felicity are very much team members at this point. She thinks that there should be a new team at the moment, and Oliver would like the old team to return. He’s convinced everyone will go do their thing, then come back. They’re kind of at odds at that at the moment, but they’re very much team members right now,” he said.
Arrow Season 5 premieres October 5 on The CW.
