Ever since the engagement of Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak was broken off back in Arrow Episode #4.15 “Taken,” it seems that, while the two characters have been working together quite a bit since, the elephant in the room has not really been discussed.
A new interview at TV Line suggests that will finally be addressed in the 20th episode of Arrow Season 5, titled “Underneath.” Stephen Amell has suggested that the same actor shares all of the scenes with him in the episode — we’re taking that to be Emily Bett Rickards — and there have been suggestions online that the scenes involve Oliver and Felicity in the bunker.
“One of the things that we’ve always wanted to do, and I think a lot of the fans have asked for, is basically deal with the consequences of Episode 415 [when] Oliver and Felicity ended their engagement and broke up,” Arrow Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim told TV Line in an interview posted today. “They never really had a full-on discussion or exploration of why that breakup happened. Felicity just sort of reached her breaking point and walked out the door,” he recalled.
“This is definitely an examination of the state of their breakup. It comes out of the events of 519 [titled ‘Dangerous Liaisons’] and, quite frankly, all the other episodes that led up to it. Something happens in 519 [airing Wednesday, April 26] that really tees up this conversation,” Guggenheim said.
Could the events of 519 signal the end of Helix?
We shall find out in a few weeks.
“Underneath” will likely air Wednesday, May 3 on The CW. The show returns on April 26.
